GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
October 31, 1974
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was
held on Thursday, October 31, 1974, at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookview Community
Center, 8200 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Gergen presided and the following members were present: Brown,
Courey, Duebner, Jaffe, Kelby, and Petersen; absent, Hammer. Also present
were John L. Brenna, Park and Recreation Director, David Latvaaho, Assistant
Park and Recreation Director, and Gertrude Peterson, secretary.
MINUTES
It was moved by Petersen and seconded by Duebner, that the minutes of the
regular meeting of September 26, 1974, be approved. Motion carried.
TRAILS
At this time, members of the Briarwood Patio Homes Association came forth
and lodged their dissatisfaction with that portion of the Briarwood trail
that exits on their private road. Mr. Brenna explained the reason why the
trail terminated at the private road. Residents present stated they were
not aware of a trail on their property. Mr. Brenna stated that a quit
claim deed running in favor of the Village of Golden Valley from the
Centurian Company for a walkway easement across Lot 37 was exercised in
November, 1973. Residents present stated that they had checked their
abstracts and found no record of a trail easement. Mr. Gergen suggested
that pending further investigation by Mr. Brenna, the Park and Recreation
Commission will place a hold on any further construction on the trail. A
meeting will be held on December 5, 1974, at Brookview Community Center
with the homeowners to discuss the above matter.
PARK CONSTRUCTION
Mr. Brenna presented an expenditure statement of our Park Bond Issue dated

been done in each park and what remains to be done. The Park and Recreation
Commission stated that a very good job has been done on park construction
and that the economic philosophy exercised by staff should continue. The
subject of vandalism was discussed and it was decided that a future meeting
the Commission will discuss this matter at length.
