GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
February 27, 1975
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was
held on Thursday, February 27, 1975, at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookview Community
Center, 8200 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Gergen presided and the following members were present: Brown,
Courey, Duebner, Jaffe, Kelby, and Petersen; member absent, Hammer. Also
present were John L. Brenna, Director of Parks and Recreation and Gertrude
Peterson, secretary.
MINUTES
It was moved by Jaffe and seconded by Petersen that the minutes of the
regular meeting of January 30, 1975, be approved. Motion carried.
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION — Procedures
After much discussion, it was suggested by Courey that the Commission should
pursue the possibility of putting together a twelve month agenda on those
matters that should be programmed for future discussion, thereby giving
staff the time to prepare the subjects.
It was further suggested that the City Council apprise future appointments
to the Park and Recreation Commission of what their charge is.
After further discussion, it was moved by Petersen and seconded by Kelby,
that the entire paragraph under the heading "PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
procedure" as contained in the minutes of the regular meeting of December
5, 1974, be stricken. Motion carried.
GOLDEN VALLEY ROAD — trail
Mr. Brenna discussed the estimates for bituminous and concrete walkways as
submitted by the Engineering Department in lieu of the crushed limestone
as specified in the bids received December 16, 1974 (Approximate cost —
$71,712.85)
BROOKVIEW MENS GOLF ASSOCIATION
Members of the Brookview Mens Golf Association, Brookview Womens Golf
Association, and the Couple Club, were present relative to the matter of
alcoholic beverages at Brookview Community Center. Mr. Jack Culver stated
that the Mens Club would find it difficult to enforce this rule and it
might be necessary to cancl large events that have been planned such as
the year end party, guest day, and the Couples Club which meets every other
Sunday. After discussion, it was the decision of the Board to have the
Brookview Sub Committee study the matter and contact the city attorney and
report back to the Committee.
OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE
Dr. Petersen discussed the action taken by the Open Space Committee relative

to the 3.1 acre triangular shaped parcel at the north end of the Leines
property which the Open Space Committee is interested in obtaining.
After discussion, it was moved by Courey and seconded by Jaffe, that
the Commission urge the City Council to cooperate with the School Board
of District 725 in acquiring this property for school and public
purposes, as well as any other easements that may be negotiated between
the parties, for the property which is over and across the north hundred
feet of said tract. Motion carried.
Dr. Petersen discussed the action taken by the Open Space Committee
relative to the name submitted for the Star of Bethlehem property. The
choices to be submitted to the Park and Recreation Commission were
Wilderwood and Pennsylvania Woods. After discussion, it was moved by
Brown and seconded by Kelby that this park be named Pennsylvania Woods.
Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, it was moved by Kelby and seconded by
Jaffe that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried and the meeting
was adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
