4-24-19751 REGULAR MEETING GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION April 24, 1975 A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was held on Thursday, April 24, 1975, at 7:30 p.m., at the Brookview Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Petersen presided and the following members were present: Brown, Courey, Duebner, Gergen, Hammer, and Jaffe; members absent, Kelby and King. Also present were John L. Brenna, Director of Parks and Recreation, David H. Latvaaho, Assistant Director, Corey J. Bakken, Golf Operations Manager, Leo Hanson, Greens Superintendent, Janet Stueber, Program Supervisor, and Gertrude Peterson, secretary. MINUTES It was moved by Brown and seconded by Jaffe, that the minutes of the regular meeting of April 3, 1975, be approved. Motion carried. BROOKVIEW MENS GOLF ASSOCIATION — by laws Members of the Board of Directors of the Brookview Mens Golf Association were present, and Mr. Jack Culver explained why it was felt that the by laws needed amending — the members felt they were unadequate and that the proposed amendments had been passed at their regular meeting on April 7, 1975, by only one dissenting vote. After discussion, it was moved by Brown and seconded by Duebner that the Commission approve the by laws with the following correction: Under Article I, Name, purpose and location, paragraph 5 thereof, line 4, change the word "Department" to "Commission".' Motion carried. Mr. George Caviness of the Brookview Mens Golf Association proposed that Brookview Golf Course might offer a season ticket to citizens. Also, Mr. Hammer mentioned that those businesses, whose owners do not live in Golden Valley, but have their places of business herein, be allowed to purchase one patron card for said business. After discussion, it was moved by Hammer and seconded by Gergen that the matter of season tickets, and issuing patron cards to businesses be referred to the Brookview Sub committee for further study. Motion carried. BROOKVIEW SUB COMMITTEE REPORT Mr. Courey brought forth two items for discussion relative to golf course improvements — an irrigation system and fairway upgrading. Mr. Leo Hanson, Greens Superintendent, explained irrigation proposals submitted by Toro, Buckner, and Rainbird Companies. After lengthy discussion, it was moved by Brown and seconded by Duebner that we seek proposals from qualified companies on fairway upgrading, which would include an irrigation system under con— ditions consistent with golf course revenue paying the entire cost. Motion carried. Mr. Courey also presented the findings of the sub committee relaitve to intoxicating liquor at Brookview Community Center. After discussion, it was Regular Meeting Park and Recreation Commission page two moved by Brown and seconded by Gergen that the matter of liquor at Brookview be tabaled. Motion carried. SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM At this time, Mr. Brenna introduced Janet Stueber, our new Program Super— visor, to the Commission. Mr. Latvaaho and Mrs. Stueber outlir®ed the 1975 summer recreation program for the Commission. OPEN SPACE COMMITTEE The report of the Bassetts Creek Water Shed Committee was discussed, as well as the consideration and recommendations of the Open Space Committee relative to the proposals of the Bassetts Creek Flood Control Commission as they pertain to open space in Golden Valley. After discussion, it was moved by Brown and seconded by Gergen that the Commission support the efforts of the Open Space Committee to prevent environmental damage to the City of Golden Valley in connection with the Bassetts Creek Water Shed Commission's report as expressed in the action taken by the Open Space Committee as set forth in their minutes of April 23rd. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, it was moved by Hammer and seconded by Jaffe that the meeting be adjourned.
