GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was held
on Thursday, May 27, 1976, at 7:30 pm at Brookview Community Center, 8200
Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairperson Duebner presided and the following members were present: Brown,
Hammer, Kelby, and Petersen, members absent, Courey, Gergen, Jaffe and King.
Also present were John L. Brenna, Director of Parks and Recreation, and Gertrude
Peterson, secretary.
MINUTES
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 29, 1976, were approved as printed
with the following correction: Page 1, line 2 thereof the time should read
8:45; on page 3 thereof, signature line should read Vice Chairman Brown.
It was moved by Brown and seconded by Hammer that the minutes of the Open Space
and Trails Committee of May 19,1976, be received and filed. Motion carried.
CAPITAL LONG RANGE IMPROVEMENTS
Mr. Brenna informed the Commission of the suggestions of the Open Space and
Trails Committee. These recommendations, together with the recommendations
of the Park and Recreation Commission, will be discussed by the CLIC at their
meeting on June 1st and June 8th.
LAUREL AVENUE PONDING
Chairperson Duebner discussed her appearance before the City Council on the
ponding matter. Mr. Brenna pointed out the suggestions of the Open Space and
Trails Committee, and his meeting with the City Engineer relative to the
technical problems involved. After discussion, it was moved by Petersen and
seconded by Brown that the Park and Recreation Commission recommends approval
ofthe proposed plan for water storage at Laurel Avenue, which encompasses the
suggestions of the Open Space and Trails Committee which were brought forth at
their meeting of May 24, 1976, and that the Park and Recreation Commission also
recommends a complete landscape planting scheme to be included in the original
contract. Motion carried.
WILDWOOD PARK
After discussion, it was moved by Hammer and seconded by 'Celby that the matter
of Wildwood Park be tabled for one month. Motion carried.
PARK AND RECREATION DIRECTOR'S ITEMS
Mr. Brenna stated that the Minnesota Park and Recreation Association will be
sponsoring a Board and Commission Tour of various facilities in surrounding
communities. This tour gives members a chance to view other facilities, etc.,
the tour will be held on June 24th and members are urged to attend.
Mr. Brenna read a letter from the State Highway Department relative to errant
golf balls which are hit from the Brookview Driving Range unto Highway #12.
Mr. Brenna stated that trees are being planted, and that a net will be suspended
from poles to correct the situation until such time as the trees are grown to

maturity.
Mr. Brenna further stated that the Metropolitan Transit Commission has
been offered permission from the federal government to make a gift of some
of their busses to non profit and governmental organizations. The Commission
discussed the matters of insurance, liability, maintenance, storage, drivers,
etc., that might arise. Mr. Brenna will check into the matter further and
report back.
TOWN MEETING 176
Chairperson Duebner urged members of the Commission to attend the Town
Meeting which will be held on Thursday, June 12th, at Calvary Luthern Church.
Chairperson Duebner stated that when the Health Center property is once
again toured, the City Council has expressed a desire to be included in the
tour. Mr. Brenna will make the necessary arrangements.
The next meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission will be held on
Wednesday, June 30th, 1976, rather than the regular meeting date of June 24th.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, it was moved by Hammer and seconded by Brown
that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned
at 10:15 p.m.
