9-13-1976REGULAR MEETING
GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
September 13, 1976
A special budget meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation
Commission was held on Monday, September 13,1976, at 7:30 p.m. at the
Brookview Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Blvd., Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairperson Duebner presided and the following members were present:
Brown, Jaffe, Kelby and Petersen, members absent, Gergen, Hammer, and
King. Also present were David Latvaaho, Assistant Director of Parks and
Recreation and John Brenna, Director of Parks and Recreation.
Program 060 — Park and Recreation Commission
Discussion ensued relative to additional monies for the 4110 account,
salaries, the additional monies would be used for secretarial help in
taking the minutes, of regular and special Commission meetings. It was
the consensus of members present that since the illness of Mrs. Peterson
the Park and Recreation Department secretary, it has been difficult to
recruit volunteers from the Commission to take the minutes. It was pointed
out that when a Commission member does take the minutes, by so doing it
takes the member many times out of the discussion because of his or her
involvement in writing down that which is happening. The Commission also
stated that the City Council should receive clear, concise, consistant,
and timely minutes, something that may not happen in a Commission member
were to take the minutes. It was then moved by Kelby and seconded by Brown
to recommend an increase in account 4110 by $300 which reflects a secretary
for 15 meetings at $20 per meeting, with appropriate adjustments in
accounts 4150 and 4160. Carried.
Program 670 — Youth Activities
Discussion ensued relative to a $1,000 cut in Program 670. After much
discussion, it was moved by Brown and seconded by Jaffe, recommending
$500 be taken from account 4130, and placed in the 4420 account with $250
to football and $250 to hockey, thereby asking for no increase. Carried.
Program 690 — Senior Citizens
Discussion was brought forth relative to special recreation instructors
for bridge, arts, and crafts, and exercise. The above activities were
requested for by the Senior Citizens Club. The Club has risen in member
ship from 60 to 90 active members. It was moved by Kelby and seconded by
Brown recommending that we increase Program 690 by $300 and place the
amount in the 4130 account. Carried.
Program 655 — Teen Center
Discussion was brought forth relative to the evening teen program in our
regional parks. After much discussion, it was moved by Kelby and seconded
Park and Recreation Commission page two
by Brown recommending we request $900 for an experimental eveing
program for spring and fall. Carried.
