GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
A special meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to
order by Chairman Kahn at the Brookview Community Center, on May 10, 1978,
at 8:00 p.m.
Members present were Hammer, Petersen, Brown, Riley and Haglund. Absent
members were Jaffe, King, and Eastes. Also present was John L. Brenna,
Director of Parks and Recreation.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the 1978 Dutch Elm Disease
Program.
The 1978 program is similar to the 1977 program with these changes:
1. the number of trees to be removed is 1400 (it was 940 in 1977)
2. the state allowance has droppped from 38% to 28Yo
3. our budget has increased, therefore, from $31,715 to $67,680.
The same contractor was low bidder this year as last. The problems ex—
perienced have been discussed with him, and we are hopeful that there will
be no recurrence. There was no negative feed back from residents concern—
ing the program's implementation.
Member Petersen moved that the Commission recommend to the Couuncil the
approval of the proposed 1978 Dutch Elm Disease Program as outlined by the
City Finance Officer:
Contract $1529890 (1400 trees)
350 City trees (25% or total) at 100% cost
to City $38,225.00
balance at share portion of 35/ cost to City $409133.00
City cost total $79,000.00 (rounded)

Member Brown seconded the motion. It was passed unanimously.
