and
OPEN SPACE AND RECREATION COMMISSION
March 10, 1980
Attending: Brookview Study Committee Members: Virginia Ginsberg, Margaret
Leppik, Robert Shirley, James Sicora, and Ruth Soby; Open
Space and Recreation Commission members: Chairman G. Burton
Brown, Diane Asproth, Richard Lyons, Raymond Petersen, Charles
Burmeister, and Rhoda Jaffe. John Brenna was also present.
BROOKVIEW STUDY COMMITTEE MINUTES
Chairman Brown went through the Addendum to Report of the Brookview Study
Committee. Discussion followed on the phasing of construction and planning
for uninterrupted operations of the staff and programs currently performed in
the Brookview facility. Robert Shirely prepared a calendar which could aid
the staff at time of construction. The various methods possible to overcome
the short fall of construction costs were discussed. It was noted that the
banquet facility will allow the golf course to reach the maximum rounds played
because of the mid—day usage. The golf only facility will not allow the
maximum to be reached. An explanation for the special emphasis on the swimm-
ing position was requested. The Committee explained the reasoning behind
their recommending an outdoor pool. Several typographical and wording changes
were noted and corrected. It was moved by Sicora and seconded by Soby that
the Brookview Study Committee accept the March 13th Brookview Study Committee
Report as amended, expressing the concensus of the Committee. Carried. The
Committee meeting was adjourned.
OPEN SPACE AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
Having jointly met with the Brookview Study Committee and heard their report
as reviewed and corrected, it was moved by Petersen and seconded by Lyons that
the Open Space and Recreation Commission recommends that the City Council receive
and accept the March 13, 1980 Brookview Study Committee report as amended.
Carried.
Discussion centered around the swimming pool as to when to discuss in detail
the conflicting opinions. A work session would be better than during a
presentation to the City Council.
It was moved by Jaffe and seconded by Lyons to recommend to the City Council
to note Item V Swimming Pool in the Brookview Study Committee Report as a
contradiction to the recommendation in the Open Space and Recreation
Commission's report of March 3, 1980. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion for adjournment was made by Petersen and seconded by Lyons. Motion
carried and the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
