Pool Demolition and Replacement - Mayor Mary Anderson
Mayor Anderson approached the Commission asking their input on what should
be done with the site of the old pool. Bids have been taken for the pool
demolition and the recommendation to accept the lowest bid will be on the
consent agenda for the City Counci 1 at their meeting on Apri 1 1st. The
specs for the demolition include leaving the site level and graded. The
options for use of the site are to leave it as it is or to pave it for
parking. The Mayor asked the Commission what they felt would be the best
ultimate use of the space. Secondly, if that use is for parking, what
should be considered in when it should be paved.
Burmeister responded that the Pool Committee felt the Council should review
the situation because it is a political issue and the Council is
responsible to make this decision. He felt it was not a good move to
immediately make the pool site into golf course parking because citizens
already feel the pool got neglected while money was put into the golf
course.
Johnson and Kahlow felt that ultimately the space should be used for
parking. Murad agreed and felt there would not be too much negative
1
response for immediately using the space for golf course parking.
A motion was made by Murad and seconded by KahIow that after the demolition
of the pool is complete, the site be immediately paved and made into
parking for the golf course, along with proper landscaping and signage as
the budget allows. Yes - 6, No - 1. Motion carried.
Mayor Anderson expressed her appreciation to the Commission members for
their dedication to the community and especially to Chuck Burmeister for
his leadership on the Pool Committee.
