NEWIES
A motion was made by Al Anderegg and seconded by Jim Johnson to approve the
minutes of March 31, 1987. Motion carried.
E BCIW N OF VICE -CHAIR
Last month, Claudia Fuglie had been elected as the Vice -chair. However, a
housing opportunity came up for her rather suddenly, and she will be moving
out of Golden Valley and no longer able to serve on the Commission.
Nominations were opened for Vice -chair. George Murad nominated Al Ander-
egg, who declined. George Murad then nominated Rich Krahulec, seconded by
Chuck Burmeister. Rich Krahulec was elected as Vice -chair.
Rick Jacobson introduced Jonathan Stiegler to the Commission and explained
that the City of Golden Valley has contracted with the City of Robbinsdale
for forestry services by Jonathan on a part-time basis. In the past, a
member of the park maintenance crew had the duties of Forester, but with
increased maintenance responsibilities, the additional forestry help was
needed.
Jonathan showed slides of the various trees throughout the City represen-
ting the urban forest and reviewed printed material available to the resi-
dents on tree removal. He explained that due to the mild winter, he
expects Dutch Elm disease to increase next year. Because of the large
number of oak trees in the City, oak wilt is a potential problem. He also
encouraged the Commission to look into applying for the Tree City U.S.A.
Award.

SENICR. 0" RATE
George Murad showed the Commission a comparison of senior rates from area
courses. Fourteen of the 28 teams listed have no qualifications for a
senior rate - one can be a resident or non-resident. George feels there
should be an outside senior fee at Brookview; perhaps 25% more than what a
resident senior patron card holder would pay. There was discussion on
allowing a non-resident, non -patron senior rate before 10:00 AM, Monday
through Friday.
Chuck Burmeister agreed that there should be a reduced fee for the once a
year senior league played at Brookview, but not for all year.
Rick Jacobson felt that to give reduced fees to non-residents would be
inappropriate.
George Murad made a motion to have an 18 -hole green fee, Monday through
Friday before 10:00 AM, for seniors 62 years and over who are non -patron
card holders of $8.00. Al Anderegg seconded it. Vote: yes - 3; no - 4.
The motion was defeated.
OLD BUS IlNESS
Rick Jacobson responded to a request from last month on information regar-
ding the Schaper property which was donated to the City. The property was
donated with two stipulations: that there be a plaque on site, and it be
used for environmental purposes.
NEW SUS HESS
Rick Jacobson reminded the Commission of the Commission Dinner to be held
on May 26, 1987 at Brookview Conmunity Cbnter.
The May meeting will be canceled due to Memorial Day and the Commissioners
dinner being held May 26. The next meeting will be June 22nd.
