7-27-1987OPEN SPACE AND RDCRFATICN CLNMISSICN July 27, 1987 7:00 PM Members present: Rick Groger, Rich Krahulec, Chuck Burmeister, Michele Bix, Pat Borchert, Jim Johnson. Also present were Tom Klatt, Park/Street Superintendent, Rick Jacobson, and Sharyl Thompson. Rick Jacobson reviewed three pieces of correspondence that had been re- ceived in the Park and Recreation office. Judy Horvick had expressed concern over signage, adequate parking lots, reduced speeds and stop signs near parks, policies regarding youth at the tennis courts, golf course, and athletic facilities, and general park safety. Mr. Egge requested an explanation of the rule that shirts must be worn by patrons of the golf course driving range, and asked that it be changed. A petition was received on July 6th from residents around Wesley Park asking that the temporary fence be taken down. Rick explained that the fence, upt up in early June, similar to the one at Seeman Park, was to provide a better playing facility for the youth softball program. It was a temporary measure. The fence was taken down at the end of the season, about July 22nd. The fence general l y wi 1 1 only be up from early June through late July. PARK 70UR The first stop was ErCOKVIEW CDU COURSE. The #9 green is currently being reconstructed. The extent of water damage from the heavy storm was dis- cussed. The Cormi s s i on wa 1 ked a portion of the new trail behind the MALLARD CREEK APAR'BU NTS . WESLEY PARK - the trails had been recently overlayed and new asphalt was put in around the building. Some new playground equipment is on order. SANDBURG FIELDS/1DNEYWELL LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS - the City has been taking care of the maintenance over the past years. SG EID PARK - the parking situation was pointed out (and discussed at all park locations). GEAR'IY PARK - there is no off-street parking, however no complaints have been received from the residents. The girls fast pitch team plays at this park. PAPOOSE PARK - there is a problem in the outfield with a drainage area. Little League uses this field for practices and there was some discussion on a temporary cover of the drain in the outfield to help avoid any in- juries. 1 138 SF.EMM PARK - the field is used for the Little League minor teams. There is some parking available. The City Engineer has receive requests for stop signs at the intersection of Phoenix and Florida Avenues. NA'PQ-iFZ PARK - plans are being made to regrade and build up the areas that have sunk over the years. Parking is a problem since it is available on one side only. This park is used for Little League practices. LAUREL AVENUE CREENBELT - the Commission members stopped by the King's Creek area where the trail will eventually end. Some discussion was held as to where the trail should actually be put since the grade is steep and it is quite close to some houses. The Commissioners walked the remainder of the trail. PARK S IQS4 Rick Jacobson showed pictures of park warning signs for traffic control. It was the consensus of the members to use the sign showing a running child and the words "s low", "playground".
