Also present were Sharyl Thompson and Rick Jacobson.
A neighborhood meeting was held at 7:00 PM with those residents living in
the vicinity of the area where the Laurel Avenue trail will be completed.
The following residents were in attendance at this meeting:
Irving Katz John Krenn
260 King Hill Rd. 200 Dakota Ave. S.
Tom Davis
235 King Creek Rd.
Phyllis & Andrea Brown
5901 Laurel
Glen & Ardith Eiden
345 Brunswick Ave. S.
Mike Wolsted
215 King Creek Rd.
Bob & Dianne Asproth
340 Dakota Ave. S.
Shirley M. Michel
5901 Laurel
Dennis Dickson
225 Dakota Ave. S.
Roger Grant from Close/Grant & Associates, the landscaping architectural
company working on the plan, reviewed with the residents the location of
the existing trail and the vicinity of the continuation of the trail. The
trail would run northeast from Laurel Avenue, behind the Laurel Hills
Condominiums and up to King Creek Road. Mr. Grant explained that the
plantings along the trail would be of evergreen trees for screening and
native plants to give it a natural appearance, not one of a manicured park.
The concerns of the residents included:
1) the "swampy" area at the northernly end
2) is it cost effective due to the land hazards, and the fact that the
trail would connect to a street, not a sidewalk or another trail
3) concern that some of the trail put in by the condominium developer was
actually on the city easement, and did not like the idea of having a
second trail built by the city just parallel to the existing one
4) the desire to have another meeting when a scale drawing is available
and the specific trail location is determined
5) whether or not the bike paths built by the area residents in the grove
of trees near Brunswick would be affected; some residents were concered
about the safety of those trails, and others said this provided many
hours of fun for many neighborhood kids and their parents
6) who would maintain the trail and to what degree
Most of the above questions were answered, with further study to be done on
others. It was agreed that the residents would be informed when a specific
plan was drawn up and a meeting could be arranged.

MINUTES
A motion was made by Michele Bix and seconded by Rich Krahulec to approve
the minutes of January 11, 1988. The motion carried.
Rick Jacobson reported that Dr. Cooper from the University of Minnesota is
sending a contract on the goose population control program. Dr. Cooper
also indicated that he now has a contract with the City of Plymouth and the
City of Robbinsdale is also considering a goose control program.
Rick Jacobson reported that a meeting had been held with Don Herfort the
golf course architect, the Improvement Committee and staff. The Par 3
course will be closed June 27th for reconstruction which includes rebuild-
ing of the #4 and #6 greens, rebui lding of various tees, a few traps wi 11
be added, and lagoon work to improve drainage, as well as fabric bridging
to help stabilize low areas. The cost for these repairs are estimated to be
between $200,000 and $220,000. There are also plans for a new 18th green on
the regulation course.
The Task Force on Park Safety will report to City Council on their review
of offstreet parking in the parks, stop signs near parks, and reduced speed
limits.
The question came up as to what was being done on the corner of Hwy. 55 and
Winnetka. Rick Jacobson explained that berms are being built and seeded
with grass to protect the dirt storage area from the view of passers-by.
Rick Jacobson announced that the City of Golden Valley did receive
distinction of a 1987 Tree City USA.
