Members present: Rick Groger, Rich Krahulec, Chuck Burmeister, George
Murad, Julie Bergh, and Pat Borchert. Also attending were Don Taylor, City
Finance Director, Rick Jacobson and Sharyl Thompson.
M NUNS
A motion was made by Rich Krahulec and seconded by Chuck Burmeister to
approve the minutes of November 28, 1988. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL UPDATE
Don Taylor, City Finance Director, was introduced to the Cbmmission. Mr.
Taylor briefed the (bnrnission on the city budget and capital improvement
plan (CIP), and further explained how the Park and Recreation Department
budget and golf course operations fit into the overall city financial
picture.
Upon the request of George Murad, Mr. Taylor reviewed the golf course year
end financial statement reiterating the City's goal to keep a minimum
reserve of between $250,000 and $300,000 in the golf course.
LIGBI' RAIL TRANSIT
Rick Jacobson reported that the light rail transit being proposed for the
Turin Cities may use the railroad corridor along Mary Hills Park. There is
some interest being expressed in having a station in Golden Valley, either
near Theo Wirth Park or across Bonnie Lane near Mary Hi l is Park. Future
meetings will be scheduled for the Commissioners' input.
O: MIIISSICN UPDAIE
Mayor Mary Anderson came to the meeting and expressed her appreciation to
the commissioners for their service to the community. Timm of the current
commissioners' terms were up for re -appointment, Rick Groger and Michele
Bix. Rick agreed to continue to serve, and Mayor Anderson said she would
contact Michele.
George Murad asked Mayor Anderson for the status on the sidewalks. She
said she would check into it. George also inquired if the State would be
doing anything in regard to helping pay for sidewalks because of the I-394
construction.
Rick Groger expressed to the Mayor his compliments for Rick Jacobson and
Sharyl Thompson.
OID BUSINESS
Signage for Brookview Recreation Area: Rick Jacobson showed a drawing to
the Commissioners. Rich Krahulec asked if any consideration had been given
to tying these signs in with those for the Civic Center block. Rick
Jacobson said he would check into it.

Rick Jacobson asked for input from the Commissioners on the busing of
children from local Golden Valley parks to sumner special events. In the
past couple of years, ridership has been minimal. After some discussion,
Chuck Burmeister recommended that they not provide busing for one year to
see if it truly is missed.
Pat Borchert requested that again this summer the afternoon activities
start at 1:15 so the kids had time to have lunch following summer school.
A notion was made by George Murad and seconded by Rich Krahulec to adjourn
at 8:25 PM.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 27, 1989, 7:00 PM.
