2-26-1990OPEN SPACE & RECREATION COMMISSION February 26, 1990 Members present: Jim Johnson, Rich Krahulec, George Murad, Pat Borchert, Chuck Burmeister. Also present were Rick Jacobson, Sharyl Thompson, and Jeff Schoenbauer of Brauer & Associates. There were no additions or changes to the agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Jim Johnson and seconded by Rich Krahulec to approve the minutes of January 22, 1990. Motion carried. BROOKVIEW PARK MASTER PLAN REVIEW Jeff Schoenbauer of Brauer & Associates presented a revised plan of Brookview Park develop- ments. It was suggested that the plantings continue south of the Community Center all the way to the end of the driving range. A motion was made by George Murad and seconded by Chuck Burmeister to accept the master plan as presented in the preliminary stages. Motion carried. HENNEPIN PARKS TRAIL CORRIDOR UPDATE Rick Jacobson reported on the trail that will go from French Park to Theo Wirth Park. This would complete a 40 -mile loop. The goal is to begin purchasing property in 1990, begin asphalt trail con- struction in 1991; and have it available for use in 1992. GOLF COURSE UPDATE Rick Jacobson reported that specs are being drawn up for redoing the 2nd and 4th greens and the 14th tee. NEW BUSINESS Jon Stiegler resigned to take a position with the DNR. The City of Golden Valley is moving ahead to fill the forestry position. Chuck Burmeister asked that a letter be sent to Jon Stiegler expressing the appreciation of the Commission for the fine job he did. School District #281 has come to the cities requesting that recreation and enrichment programs be offered by the park and recreation departments to take the place of summer school. Rick Birno and Sue Cook have attended meetings. The cities and the YMCA have each agreed to take a one- week "camp". Golden Valley's program will be "Exploring the Twin Cities". OLD BUSINESS Rick Jacobson reported that he contacted the resident who was concerned about bangboards and informed him there was one available at Seeman Park. The City Council approved lighting the Honeywell Little League field based on a 50/50 cost with Little League. The City would pay up front and Little League would pay $15,000 back to the City over a period of ten years. This is pending the approval of Honeywell.
