A motion was made by Chuck Burmeister and seconded by Rich Krahulec to approve the minutes
of October 22, 1990. Motion carried.
SAVE CEDAR LAKE PARK PRESENTATION
Rick Jacobson introduced Brian Willette and Lori Lundee who represent a citizens group that is
seeking to secure a nature reserve at the north end of Cedar Lake. The land had been proposed
for a housing development, but their aim is to have it designated as park land. They showed a slide
presentation showing the location of the property and pointed out that it could easily tie in with
South Tyrol Park in Golden Valley.
A motion was made by Chuck Burmeister and seconded by Rich Krahulec to endorse the
resolution that had been presented and passed by the Golden Valley City Council, with strong
support both in the issue itself and in tying it in with any trails in Golden Valley. Motion carried.
SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM
Rick Birno gave an overview of the proposed 1991 summer programs. It is similar to last year with
some slight changes in the athletic programs.
Chuck Burmeister suggested askin& participants in the Babe Ruth baseball program to assist as
volunteer coaches in the park athletic programs.
The Commission wishes to express to City Council and City staff their appreciation for the
excellence in programming, the innovation, creativity and quality of programming by the park and
recreation staff.
U.S. WEST TELEPHONE TOWER
Rick Jacobson reported that U.S. West is looking for a location to place a cellular telephone tower
and has proposed to the City using the corner of Hwy. 169 and General Mills Boulevard on
Brookview Golf Course. U.S. West would pay a monthly charge to the City on a 25 year
agreement. They need a 60' square pice of land to hold a building, and a 100' "monoTole". The
City is considering this proposal. Placing the building and a tower on Brookview Golf Course
would require rezoning which entails public hearings and meetings with this Commission. A
representative of U.S.West will be at the February Commission meeting.
Chuck Burmeister asked if the tower could be placed by the east end of the driving range.
OUTDOOR POOL TASK FORCE UPDATE
The Commission reviewed the minutes of the Outdoor Pool Task Force meetings.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Pat Borchert and seconded by Rich Krahulec to adjourn.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 25, 1991.
