of January 23, 1995.
LITTLE LEAGUE - JERRY SANDLER
Jerry Sandler, President of Golden Valley Little League gave a report. This is the 40th year of
operation for their organization. Golden Valley Little League is affiliated with the National Little
League. Their jurisdiction is valid only within the city limits of Golden Valley. They have
experienced growth over the past several years; in 1989 they had 249 participants, and in 1994
there were 278 participants.
A `,Challenger" program is being considered this year in conjunction with St. Louis Park. This
program would be for children with disabilities.
Little League uses all the fields which are made available to them. Although Little League
national guidelines allow seven year olds to participate in Little League, Golden Valley has not
lowered their age limit becuase of field limitations. Jerry reports that because of the limited
number of fields, there is difficulty scheduling make-up games if there is a rainy season.
The Little League organization felt the Athletic Field Proposal that is presently being considered
by the City Council would benefit their program since it would provide them with two better
fields and allow them to discontinue the use of Breck facilities.
Jerry Sandler and the Little League organization were commended for providing a quality baseball
program for the youth of Golden Valley.
GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT GREG SPENCER
Greg reported that in 1994, the following projects were completed: adding a lesson tee and green
in the southwest corner of the golf course, a new putting green and practice sand trap in the
southeast corner by the driving range, six driving range chutes for using woods, two new bridges,
and shoring of pond banks.
In 1995, they will add a
paths.
