"Golf Course Fee Structure & ear End Report", .. "There are no easy answers to getting golfers
to play the course within a rea onable amount of time, four hours, twenty minutes".
A motion was made by Rich Krahulec and seconded by Roger McConico to approved theinin-
utes of November 27, 1995, as corrected. Motion carried.
GLENWOOD HILLS HOSPITAL PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT
Rick Jacobson showed the Commission a preliminary plan being proposed for the development
of the site by Glenwood Hills Hospital. The plan shows about six hundred units including single
family homes, townhomes, golf villas, apartments and senior housing. The question was asked
about the inclusion of park lana in a new development such as this. Rick Jacobson explained the
City dedication ordinance to the Commission.
Tom Zins and Roger McConico expressed their desire to have some land available for a park
and/or public access to Sweeney Lake.
A motion was made by Tom Zins and seconded by Chuck Cahill to request from City Council
that the Open Space and Recreation Commission be kept informed and included in future dis-
cussions and planning of the Glenwood Hills Hospital site. The desire is that the development
would include park land and possibly public access to Sweeney Lake. Motion carried.
ATHLETIC FACILITY UPDATE
The City had a discussion with ithe State Arts School regarding their development plans. It ap-
pears the site no longer is being considered for a metro university, and they may be interested in
the possibility of a shared soccer field. Timing for this, if it worked out, could take up to two
years since funding for the school goes through the state legislature.
It was noted that even if a soccer field were to be built at the arts school, this would not solve the
problem of lack of fields for Little League and Girls Slowpitch Softball. Also, it should be kept
in mind that this possible joint venture with the arts school would put an athletic facility on pri-
vately owned property, not on property controlled by the City. Linda Loomis also pointed out
that the Schaper property cannot be left as it is. According to the environmental impact study,
the area either needs to be covered up, or dug out.
It was the consensus of the Commission that placing two ballfields at Schaper is pivotal in pro-
viding facilities for soccer, baseball and softball.
JOINT MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL
There will be a joint meeting with the City Council on Monday, February 26th, 7:00 PM at City
Hall. Topics to be discussed include the Schaper property development, and possibly the Glen-
wood Hills Hospital site development and the goose problem at Brookview Golf Course.
CANADA GOOSE REPORT
In response to a letter from Don Singer regarding the goose problem at Brookview Golf Course,
the City Council at their December 5, 1995 meeting, requested that the Open Space and Recrea-
tion Commission conduct a study and bring a recommendation on how to solve the problem.
The Open Space & Recreation Commission will discuss this with the Council at their joint
meeting on February 26th.
