OPEN SPACE & RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
April 23, 2001
Members Present: Linda Loomis, Jim Vaughan, Chuck Cahill, Lance Ness and Tom Zins
(Represented OSRC at the Planning Commission Meeting). Also present were Rick
Jacobson, Director of Parks & Recreation; Sheila Van Sloun, Administrative Secretary; Sue
Cook, Recreation Supervisor; Tony Riemensnider, Little League Baseball; and Gloria
Johnson and Marti Micks from the City Council.

Additions to the agenda were made by Linda Loomis.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - March 26, 2001
Postponed until next meeting.
GOLDEN VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL — Tony Riemensnider
Tony Riemensnider, President of Golden Valley Little League, gave an update on this year's
program. There are approximately 190 youth registered this year, which is down from the
210 that were registered last year. Tony stated that the program has now been opened to 7
year olds.
The program consists of three leagues. Two minor leagues open to ages 7-12, blue (non-
competitive) and gold (more competitive) and one major league, open to ages 9-12. There
are five blue league teams, four gold league teams and six major league division teams.
Tony discussed with the commission the sewer project that is taking place at the Honeywell
ballfields. He stated that the association applied for a $5,000 Twins Grant which if received
would be used for improvements at the site.
COMMISSION GUIDELINE DISCUSSION — Gloria Johnson & Marty Micks
Gloria Johnson and Marty Micks from the Golden Valley City Council gave a brief update on
the proposed commission guidelines and why they are necessary. The discussion centered
around key points of the guidelines, including general background, open meeting law,
attendance requirements and communication between Commission and City Council. After a
brief discussion, it was pointed out that the goal of the Council is to move forward with
approval of these guidelines as soon as possible.
RECREATION REPORT — Sue Cook
Sue Cook gave a detailed review of several winter 2001 programs, which included youth
basketball, numerous classes and warming houses. Sue then previewed upcoming events
for this Spring/Summer 2001 season.
OLD BUSINESS
1) Sheriffs Site— Review postponed due to Tom Zins attending the Planning
Commission meeting.
2) Meadowbrook Community Center — Rick Jacobson discussed the progress of the
project. Tentative completion is mid-October.
3) Hidden Lakes Phase II — Linda Loomis brought up to the commission that Hidden
Lakes is in the process of bringing the second phase of it's development before the
Planning Commission and the City Council for approval. After some discussion, it
was the consensus of the Commission that the Council involve them in the decision
as to if cash or land should be required under the Park Dedication Ordinance.

A motion was made by Roger McConico and seconded by Jerry Sandler to adjourn. Motion
carried.
