6-23-2003i alley Open Space & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Brookview Community Center Monday, June 23, 2003 — 5:15 PM I. CALL TO ORDER Meeting called to order at 5:15 p.m. II. ROLL CALL Present: Roger McConico, Tom Zins, Chuck Cahill, Jim Vaughan, Jerry Sandler, Jim Johnson and Tom Kuelbs, Jr. City Staff: Rick Jacobson, Director of Parks & Recreation Sheila Van Sloun, Administrative Secretary Tom Klatt, Public Works Maintenance Manager Absent: Lance Ness and Liz Elder III. AGENDA CHANGES OR ADDITIONS None IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES —April 28 & Mav 19, 2003 MOTION: Moved by Tom Zins, seconded by Jim Vaughan, to approve the minutes. Motion carried. PARK & OPEN SPACE TOUR The following Parks and Open Spaces were visited and briefly discussed: Golden Oaks Park, Lakeview Park, General Mills Research Area, Medley Park, Wesley Park, Hampshire Park, Wildwood Park/Olson School, Pennsylvania Woods, Honeywell Little League Area, Sandburg Ball fields, Bassett Creek Trail, Scheid Park, Briarwood/Unity Ave. Trail/Minnagua Pond Area, Gearty Park, Stockman Park, Rice Lake Trail, South Tyrol, 3`d Lair Skate Park, Lions Park, Western Avenue Marsh and Brookview Area Pavement Management Ponding. Comments that were made are as follows: - Tom Klatt told the Commission that due to budget issues, the Tree Trust Projects have been decreased by 2-3 weeks from previous years. This year's proposed project is for the replacement of a retaining wall in the Pennsylvania Woods Nature area. - While visiting South Tyrol Park, the Commission walked the trail scheduled for paving from Tyrol Trail to June Avenue. After walking the site, the Commission re -confirmed their motion from the May meeting that the trail should be paved. - The Commission toured the 3`d Lair Skate Park. Several questions were answered by the staff. The Commission was pleased with the facility and the fact that Golden Valley youth could use the outdoor portion free through the City/3rd Lair partnership. The Commission complimented staff on the outstanding condition of the parks as well as recreation programs. X. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Moved by Roger McConico, seconded by Tom Zins to adjourn.
