Minutes
November 12, 2012
Present: Hilmer Erickson, Kathryn Frommer, Katie Hart, Brenda Hayle, Alan Ingber, Connie
Sandler, Toots Vodovoz and Peggy Watkins. Also present: Joanie Clausen, Council Liaison,
Jeanne Fackler, Staff Liaison and Cheryl Jensen, Interim Director PRISM,

Call to Order: Erickson called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
Agenda Changes or Additions:: No changes or additions to the agenda.
October 8 minutes: ingbermoved and Watkins seconded the motion to approve the minutes
from October 8. The motion passed unanimously.
Cheryl Jensen, Interim Director for PRISM, was introduced. Jensen gave a brief overview of
PRISM and the services PRISM provides to the community. Highlights:
-Food shelf, Clothing, Financial Assistance program, Automobile maintenance and repair,
emergency funding, transportation are provided at Golden Valley site
-Has seen increase in number of people requesting services and requesting more than one
service
-All intakes must see a case manager before receiving services
-Food is biggest need at this time
-PRISM raises @ $2 million dollars each year. One million/year is in-kind services/product.
The question was asked "how do we know that Golden Valley residents are being served with
the funds provided by GVHSF"? Jensen suggested specifying that the GVHSF funds be restricted
to assist Golden Valley residents seen at PRISM.
The Commission thanked Jensen for her time and for educating them on the function of PRISM
in the community.

Canvas HealthJCrisis Connection: funds to be used to continue phone support.
Crisis Nursery: Funds to be used to provide support and care to families in crisis.
Dinner At Your Door: Funds to be used to supplement clients unable to afford delivery and
subsidize meals costs.
Home Free: "Since the contract with Home Free is not being renewed by the city, the GVHSF
has withdrawn the allocation.
PRISM: Funds to be used to provide emergency and support services for Golden Valley
residents.
Senior Community Services HOME: Funds to be used to fund the sliding fee scale to assist low-
income Golden Valley seniors.
Senior Community Services Outreach: Funds to be used for direct service.
TreeHouse: Funds to be used to offset the cost of transporting teens to the TreeHouse facility in
New Hope and St. Louis Park.
YMCA: Funds to be used for program scholarships for Golden Valley residents.
New Event:
Sandler said a tentative date of April 12 has been set for the TC Gay Men's Chorus Concert. The
date has not been confirmed by the Chorus Director. Commission members asked for an
alternate date since that is the evening before Run the valley.
Other Business:
Community Foundation: Sandler reported the CF board is in the process of writing a solicitation
letter with the goal of getting it to the residents in early December.
Fackler said a request came from a resident to add a %:-mile kids fun run to Run the Valley. After
discussing the request, members felt adding the event would not be feasible and several issues
would need to be addressed: staffing, safety, timing and cost. Fackler will contact the resident
and inform her of the decision.
Sandler invited Commission members to join her at the December 4'h council meeting where she
will present the GVHSF annual report and ask the council to approve the recommended
allocations to the agencies. The next meeting is January 14 at 6:45 p.m.
Adjournment: Erickson moved to adjourn the meeting, Vodovoz seconded the motion. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
