10-22-12GOLDEN VALLEY OPEN SPACE & RECREATION COMMISSION Regular Meeting Minutes October 22, 2012 1. Call to Order Sandler called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. 2. Roll Call Present: Roger Bergman, John Cornelius, Brad Kadue, Bob Mattison, Jerry Sandler, Dan Steinberg, Rick Jacobson, Director of Parks and Recreation; Al Lundstrom, Park Maintenance Supervisor; Bert Tracy, Public Works Maintenance Manager; and Joanie Clausen, Council Member. Absent: Kelly Kuebelbeck, Emily Piper and Anne Saffert. 3. Acenda Chances or Additions None. 4. Approval of Minutes — September 24, 2012 MOTION: Grammatical correction made by Bergman in section 4, last sentence, ran changed to runs. Addition made by Bergman in section 6, first sentence, 2013-2017 was added after CIP. MOVED by Bergman and seconded by Cornelius to approve the corrected September 24 meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. 5. Recreation Report —Jeanne Fackler Fackler said she had 44 seniors attend the extended trip, which was a 100 -mile boat trip on the Mississippi River. She said the weather and fall colors were beautiful. The next extended senior trip is to Bayfield, Wisconsin in December, which already has 30 people registered. Fackler then gave details and discussed the work she does with cooperative programming, which includes working with agencies such as: LlCare, College of the Third Age, Golden Valley Library, Crystal Community Center, Ambassador Care Center, Golden Valley Rehab, Dinner At Your Door, and Five Cities Transportation with PRISM. She also meets quarterly with Activity Director's from area care centers to coordinate senior activities. Fackler serves as the staff liaison for the Golden Valley Human Services Fund. She said about $45,000 was raised through Run the Valley, Golden Valley Golf Classic, and donations. Kadue asked if there are any proposed developments for senior housing in Golden Valley. Clausen said a new senior development with assisted living facility has been proposed at a location behind The Good Day Cafe. Fackler said program participation numbers are increasing. Park Section Comprehensive Plan Review Sandler suggested the Commission annually revisit the short and long range plans and make necessary adjustments and recommendations. Sandler asked staff to go through the current plan and give a brief update on what's been accomplished. Lundstrom went through the items and gave details. Tracy added that he and Lundstrom could attend an Open Space meeting in the spring to discuss the 2013 projects. Sandler requested that for the next meeting commissioner's review the plan regarding park specific projects. 7. Updates The November meeting is rescheduled for Monday, December 10 and will be a joint meeting with the Environmental Commission at City Hall to listen to the final presentation of the U of M Student Natural Resource Management Plan. 8. Adjournment MOTION: MOVED by Bergman and seconded by Cornelius to adjourn at 8:05 PM. Motion carried unanimously.
