Minutes
February 11, 2013
Present: Hilmer Erickson, Katie Hart, Elissa Heilicher, Brenda Hayle, Diane Nimmer, Connie
Sandler, Toots Vodovoz and Peggy Watkins. Also present: Joanie Clausen, Council Liaison, and
Jeanne Fackler, Staff Liaison.
Not Attending: Kathryn Frommer, Alan Ingber.
Call to Order: Sandler called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.
Agenda Changes or Additions: No agenda changes or additions.
January 14 minutes: Erickson moved and Vodovoz seconded the motion to approve the minutes
from January 14. The motion passed unanimously.
Run the Valley:
Sponsors: Bassett Creek Dental has sent $500. Heilicher will contact Lupient Enterprises about
funding. LDI has given funding to the GVHSF through the Community Foundation. The
Community Foundation will pay for the t -shirts from this donation. Solbrekk Technology will be
contacted. Go Health will be providing chair massages. Food donations: Yoplait - 40 cases of
yogurt, Chiquita Banana — 4 cases bananas, Perkins 394 — mini muffins. Valley Pastries, Einsteins,
Old Fashioned Donut Shoppe, Perkins Hiway 55 will be contacted.
T-shirts: Price quotes has been sent and are due on February 15.
Volunteers: Vodovoz has started contacting agencies (TreeHouse, YMCA, SCS) for volunteers.
SCS will man one water table, Bassett Creek Dental has 2 volunteers. Sandy Werts, Volunteer
Coordinator for the City of Golden Valley, will publicize volunteer opportunities for the public.
Marketing/Publicity: Channel 12 will be contacting Sandler for a promotion piece. Dave Kiser
will announce at the event. Fackler will post on CommonPlace and Patch.com. Erickson will take
posters and brochures to area businesses.
Duties/Assignments: Duties will be assigned at the March meeting.
Calendar: Sandler has been in contact with the director of the TCGMC and Breck School. A date
of June 14 has been discussed. Commission members felt June 14 may not be the best option,
Sandler will pursue a date for the Fall.
Other Business:
Community Foundation: Sandler reported the GVCF sent 16,500 solicitation letters to residents
and businesses late December. So far, $20,000 has been generated from the letter for all
organizations listed on the letter. Sandler will ask Dean Penk and/or Luke Weisberg to attend
the March GVHSF meeting to talk about the Community Foundation.
Request for Funds: Sandler has sent a letter requesting $1,624 from the GVCF. At this time, a
check has not been received.
Council Update: Clausen stated the group Pink Courage has decided to not proceed with the
event "Run in the Valley".
Valley Days: Valley Days is set for Saturday, May 18,
Adjournment: Nimmer moved to adjourn the meeting, Hart seconded the motion. The meeting
was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
