Site 1 : Adeline Nature Area
Natural Resource Management Unit: Shaper Park
Location: Adeline Lane and Angelo Drive
Nature Area Size: 1.2 Acres
Description WORKING DRAFT: September 22, 2014
Adeline Nature Area is located within a residential neighborhood on the southwest end of
Sweeney Lake. (See Figure 5-x) The Union Pacific Rail Line abuts the south edge of the park.
A paved trail leading to an overlook deck and canoe launch was installed in 2006. The nature
area provides a view of Sweeney Lake. (See Appendix C: Natural Resources Inventory Update
2013 for more detailed information).
Forest and Woodlands
No specific information available from the 2003 Inventory text. Need to clip Adeline Nature Area
from review revised inventory map.
Lake
Sweeney Lake is one of two largest lakes in the City of Golden Valley. It outlets to the north into
Bassett Creek.
Wetlands
No significant wetlands are found on Adeline Nature Area side of Sweeney Lake.
Threatened and Endangered Species
None found in this Nature Area.
Vegetation
Needs general discussion regarding the benefits of promoting healthy plant communities within
Golden Valley's Nature Area and eradicating or at least controlling as much as possible non-
native invasive plant species.

General Vegetation Management Goals
• Native Forest Restoration

WORKING DRAFT: September 22, 2014
Specific Vegetation Management Action Plans
The management strategies below address the removal of nuisance vegetation and restoration
of desirable vegetation. The desirable plant species enhance the beauty and provide wildlife
habitat potential for this nature area while the nuisance vegetative species compete for space,
light, moisture and nutrients. All of which are critical for viable plant growth and survival of
native plant species.
