Other departments presently testing for police officers are Richfield,
Mendota Heights, and Maplewood.
Affirmative action information for those who have so far applied include
two black males and one black female, five American Indians, thirty-seven white
females, two Asian -Americans, and two Spanish Surnamed Americans out of 354
applicants.
Present time on veteran's preference legislation indicates that the new
preference would take affect on January 1, 1976.
The police officer test will be held in the State Highway Building on
April 26. There may be other testing dates.
Jeff Sweet indicated that there may be affirmative action actions against
the Police Civil Service Commission by the State Human Rights or by the Golden
Valley Human Rights Commission. This action would involve our requirement of a
two-year college degree.
The commission then proceeded to process those applications which had been
turned in. We agreed that the ninety credits would need to be completed by July 1,
1975. After each application has been read it will be initialed at the top of the
application by a commission member. Any application not accepted must be initialed
by two members.
After completing the police officer applications the commission briefly discussed
the Lieutenant Register. We ask Jeff Sweet to provide information to us about the
intention of thecitymanager and filling that position or a position for an Assistant
Public Safety Director,
