The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Mitchell at 7:00 p.m.
Item 1: The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Item 2: It was confirmed that the date for the Public Safety Officer
written examination would be June 28 at 6 p.m. Commissioners
Mitchell and Sandbaken will administer the examination.
Item 3: The St. Paul Agility Test was discussed at some length. It was
subsequently moved and seconded that the St. Paul Agility Test
be used as a basis for the development of our program, but that
further study be completed before a final decision is made.
Item 4: Director Crawford reported that the department reorganization
had been reviewed by the council and was approved for imple-
mentation. The Director will meet with the council on July 11
to review in more depth the goals and objectives of the
department organization.
Item 5: Deputy Olson's June 9 report on the Affirmative Action Program
for recruitment was discussed and the report entered in the
record.
Item 6: The applications of the candidates were reviewed. The applica-
tion forms of the candidates not qualified for further considera-
tion were examined and they will be notified according. The
candidates meeting the qualifications will be notified of the
June 28 written examination.
Item 7: The commission will meet again on July 21 at 4:30 p.m. to review
the written examination results.

SUBJECT: Affirmative Action for Police Officer Recruiting
During the early part of May, Jeff Sweet, Assistant City Manager,
sent written notices to all the individuals and organizations
attached to this memorandum asking for their assistance in
recruiting women and minorities for the position of Police
Officer/Public Safety Officer for the City of Golden Valley.
In addition to this, Jeff Sweet and I made telephone contact
with all those individuals listed on the Minority and Women
Recruitment Resources list on June 6th and 7th, seeking further
assistance in our recruitment endeavor. Advertisements were
placed in the Twin Cities Courier, Minneapolis Spokesman, and
St. Paul Recorder.
The following is a composite of the applications which have been
received to date by grouping:
200 - White Males
1 - Spanish Surnamed Male
S - Black Males
2 - Unspecified Males
43 - White Females
1 - Black Female
