Summary
City Council,as part of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, commissioned a Bike/Ped Task Force to make
recommendations on proposed bike and pedestrian routes in Golden Valley for future projects.
Working off of the recommendations, staff developed a plan to install bike lanes on several corridors
as part of a 2019 project. It was determined that the project should be split into two years due to
the allotted budget available in 2019.The proposed 2019 project includes the following areas:
Sandburg Road and Nevada Avenue North between Medicine Lake Road and Douglas Drive
Olympia Street between Winnetka Avenue and Douglas Drive a portion of Olympia will not
be a bike corridor or have bike lanes).
Golden Valley Road between Rhode Island Avenue North and Douglas Drive
Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurel Avenue between Wayzata Boulevard and Turners Crossroad
Wayzata Boulevard between General Mills Boulevard and Texas Avenue
It is anticipated that parking restrictions will be required on the majority of the proposed bike route
corridors.Staff will be holding an open house for the project on June 12,2019.The open house will
be an opportunity for residents to provide input on the project as well as gather information about
the proposed design thus far.
