Attendance/Roll Call
The meeting was called to order by Chair Peterson at 5:02 PM. Present at the meeting were Commissioners Bruce Peterson, Marshall Tanick and Gloria Kumagai; and staff members Roger Johnson
and Amanda Johnson.
Agenda Review
There were no revisions or amendments made to the agenda.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting minutes of September 22, 2005 with proposed amendments were unanimously approved.
Police Officer Recruitment/Selection Process Report
Roger Johnson reported 123 applications were received for the police officer position; compared to 200 received in February 2004. Of the 123 applicants, 94 returned to take the L.E.A.P.
exam. Fifty six applicants were invited back for a short oral interview and the written A.R.I. Sixteen applicants were interviewed, and seven were ultimately placed on the police
officer eligibility register.
Roger Johnson advised there is one current vacancy and one anticipated retirement in 2006.
After discussion with commission members and police administration, Chair Peterson advised the police officer eligibility register dated 03/28/05 will be viewed as exhausted as of this
time as other remaining candidates have taken jobs with other departments.
Tanick inquired if the police officer recruitment and selection process was conducted consistent with the currently approved process of this Civil Service Commission, and Roger Johnson
stated it was. Kumagai asked if there were any reservations in recommending this police officer eligibility register for approval, and Roger Johnson stated there were not.
The police officer eligibility register was unanimously approved.
ENVISION/Connection Project-Update
As Council Member Pentel and Director Bob Hernz were not present, the update will be added to the next meeting agenda.
Tanick advised the Civil Service Commission is believed to be the only board or commission which has filed a formal report with the City Council.
Closing Comments
Chair Peterson thanked the police administration and all members who participated in the officer recruitment process for their diligence during the process, and stated he appreciated
all the hard work put into the process.
Adjournment
Kumagai moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Tanick. The meeting was adjourned at 5:26 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Marshall Tanick
