Chairman Glass called they meeting to; order at 70-45 pm in the
Public Saf6ty Building. 1,
Minutes, of May 21+v, 1,972 were approved as; road.
The resignation of Police. Patrolman Shufelt was acknowledged.
Ther Chairman requested the DirectorofPublic Safety to insure
that staff sent to the Commission notifications of future
personnel changes; - employment, promotion2 and resignation.
The. Commission discussed the probationary period. Note was made
of changed in Mian.'Statute 1+1.9-07,,Subd. 2. which permits
12 month probationary periods. Mo. on was made to approve.
following language in Rules. and Regukations of the Golden Valley
Civil Service Commission;

41 "Section 10 - Probationary Period. Both original appointments
and promotions shall be followed by a probationary period of 12
months, such probationary period for a: newly appointed officer -to)
begin after' satisfactory completion of the basic peace officer
training course. During that period the appointing authority.
after statings, its reason in writing to the Commission, may wth
the approval of the Commission reject the appointee. All appointmeatS7
whetheroriginal or promotional,, shall terminate automaticaily at
the end of the probationary period unless during the last month
of the appointee's probationthe Commission shall certify to
the appointing authority that. such probationeer performed services
that were satisfactory, and the appointment should be made final.
A candidate for promotion who is rejected during the.
probationary period shall,return to:his former position."
"Section 14 - Naemployeel, after-a-atisfactory completion
of the probationary period, shall be discharged except for cause
and according to the following procedure: 4
(a) Written charges. against the employee filed with the
Secretary of the Commission asI required by law.
(b) Investiation of charges by the Commission.
(c) A final decision by the Commission.

The Chairman asked Commissioner Mitchell to review the Rules;
and Roguiations, for necessary modification and up -dating.
Particular note must be made of 1972 changes, adopted by the
Commission. A new copy of the Rules; and Regulations, will be
published.
The. commission discussed changes in qualification requirements
for Patrolman and Sergeant. Comments, were made by officers who.
were present. In generale agreementwas, reached to modify
requiremants�.. The Chairman instructed the Secretary to- prepare
a draft of quaaifications which are to be acted upon at the
next meejring.
The Secretary was; asked to invite a member of the staff'of
the Village Attorney to attend the next meeting. At that
time, creation of` new rosters -for -Patrolman and. Sergeant will
be discussed and the,C.ommission. will discuss; the impact of
veterans:' preference requirements,.
The meeting was, adjourned at 10;40 pm. _
