June 30, with the following members present: Pinch, Putnam
and Stark. Absent: Stasel and Reiss. Acting Payor flinch
was chairman of the meeting. Also present were Einar Lee,
Village assessor, and Roy Haeg, County supervisor of assess-
ments.
Mr. Haeg stated that the County was completing an
aerial survey of the County and that a book containing an
aerial view of the Village of Golden Valley would be given
to the Village when the photographic work has been completed.
The following -persons appeared at the meeting and directed
questions from the floor:
Mr. H. E. Larson, 404 Meadow Lane N. Mr. Larson stated that
his -present valuation was too high in comparison to the tax
for last year. Mr. Haeg suggested that JRr. Larson handle
the matter through the abatement process through the State
Department of Taxation.
John H. Johnson, owner of property at the southwest corner of.
Natchez and Glenwood Avenues, stated that the tax increase on
his nronerties was in excess of comparable nronerty in the
neighborhood. Mr. Lee stated that several parcels of pronerty
owned by Mr. Johnson had been combined and therefore he could
not reconcile the tax statement issued by the County Treasurer.
It was also shown that a piece of pronerty purchased recently
had been added to the tax sta.tement which increased the tax
over that of last year. Mr. Haeg suggested that Yr. Johnson
carry the matter through the abatement -orocedure through the
County Board of Review.
'Walter Engel, Jr., 201 Ottawa. Avenue S. The auestion of home-
stead versus non -homestead taxes was discussed, and inasmuch
as Mr. Engel was renting his home on May 1, 1950, the non -
homestead rate would apply. Question was raised on the cubage
of the house, and Mr. tee indicated that he would recheck his
figures.
Mr. H. '-. Williams of the Golden Valley Theatre Cornoration
discussed the comparative valuations of the Golden Valley
Theatre and theatres in Edina., Richfield and St. Louis Park.
Consensus of the Board of Review was that the matter was a.
County Board matter in equalizing the assessments with other
theatres in the suburban areas, inasmuch as there are no
other theatres in the Village for comparison. Mr. Tiaeg sug-
gested that Yr. Williams apneas at the County Board of Review
meeting to discuss this matter further.
Votion by Putnam seconded by Stark carried to adjourn
the Board of Review meeting.
