SPECIAL MEETING
of the
VILLAGE COUNCIL
February 1?, 1963
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the Village
Council of the Village of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota, was
held at 7800 Golden Valley Road in said Village on February 12, 1963, at
8:00 o'clock P.M.
The following members were present: Flannagan, Nadasdy, Teresi; and the
following were absent: Schaphorst, Scherer.
Present were Village Manager, Roger K. Ulstad; Director of Park & Recreation
Commission, John Brenna; Park & Recreation Commissioners: Ewald, Green,
Sullivan, Byrnes, Scheffler, Petersen; Pool Committee, Brown & Roelke,
Consulting Engineer, Wallace C. Bruch.
Meeting With Park & Recreation Commission; Re: Swimming Pool:
A report from the Park and Recreation Commission and Golden Valley Swimming
Pool Committee dated January 31, 1963, was presented to council and ordered
placed on file in the Clerkts office. Mr. Bruce McNeil, President of the
Golden Valley School Board, offered Park & Recreation and Swimming Pool
Committee and Council if they were interested in an indoor -outdoor pool
that school facilities were available.
MOVED by Flannagan seconded by Teresi carried to accept the committee report
and that the Village of Golden Valley enter into an agreement with Larkin &
Associates of Kansas City to provide preliminary report on the cost of con-
struction of the municipal outdoor swimming pool with the understanding that
the firm of Larkin & Associates will consider the employment of a local
architectural firm, subject to the approval of the Park and Recreation Com-
mission and the Golden Valley Swimming Pool Committee.
MOVED by Teresi seconded by Flannagan carried to set the date for the Special
Election on the question of the proposed swimming pool on May 14, 1963.
The Park and Recreation Commission requested the Council to consider the
possibility of placing on the ballot a question of park development in that
they would like to request $150,000 to $200,000 for the Park and Recreation
Commission.
MOVED by Flannagan seconded by Teresi carried to transfer $40,000 from the
general fund to the Park & Recreation Commission for the purpose of capital
improvement of existing parks.
Representative William Frenzel:
Representative William Frenzel appeared before the Council and outlined the
progress to date at the state level and asked if there were any items the
Council wished to consider. No action was taken.
MOVED by TeresiS econded by Flannagan carried to adjourn the meeting at 12:00 M.
