April 18, 1979
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council of
the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota was held at the Middle School
in said City on April 18, 1979 at 7:00 p.m.

The following members were present: Anderson, Hoover, Johnson, Stockman and Thorsen.
Also present were: City Manager, Jeff Sweet and Council Secretary, Sue Ann Oman.
Introduction - Mayor Robert Hoover
The Mayor gave a brief introduction to the public hearing and explained how the
hearing would be operated.
Presentation of Proposal - Manager Jeff Sweet
The Manager gave a presentation on the proposal that was before the Council, including
why and how the Ad Hoc Committee was foremed, their duties, use of the Middle School,
cost of renovation and cost of acquisition.
Response to Questions
The meeting was open for written questions and the Manager and Members of the Council
responded to the questions that were asked.
Public Hearing
Mayor Hoover opened the meeting for public input and persons present to do so were
afforded the opportunity to express their views thereon.
Andy Thompson, 1240 Toledo Ave. N., on behalf of the Brookview Men's Golf Association
was in favor of the proposal.
Dennis Carlson, 150 Hanley, on behalf of the Brookview neighborhood was opposed to the
closing of Brookview pool and turning Brookview into a restaurant. He also expressed
his desire to have this proposal studied in detail further before any action was taken.
Irene Novak, 2144 Windsor Way, on behalf of the Senior Citizens of Golden Valley was
in favor of the proposal.
Kathy Mucha, 236 Janalyn Circle, said that the proposal was extravagent and would like
to have this put to a public vote.
Don Singer, 6014 Golden Valley Road, was in favor of the proposal.
Todd Kelly, 2120 Unity, on behalf of the Jaycees was in favor of the proposal.
Helen Levine, 8024 Ridgeway Road, was opposed to the proposal.
Sandy Carlson, 150 Hanley Road, was opposed to closing the outdoor pool at Brookview
and was concerned about what will happen to the Brookview building.
Special Meeting of the City Council - April 18, 1979
Stella Cook, 420 Field Drive, was generally opposed to the proposal but is in
favor of an indoor pool. She thought the pool cost figures were erroneous.
Muriel Sterne, 200 Hanley Road, was apposed to the proposal.
Roy Johnson, 10+9 0rkla Drive, has some reservations but can not speak against
the proposal. Would like to know what will happen to Brookview.
Mayor closed the public hearing.
Council Discussion
MOVED by Thorsen, seconded by Johnson and carried to continue this meeting on
April 25, 1979 at 7:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussion and decision making.
MOVED by Anderson, seconded by Thorsen and carried
submit to the Manager by Friday morning their lists
have to be addressed in the decision making process
