Special Meeting
Of The
City Council
April 25, 1979
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council
of the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota was held at the Civic
Center in said City on April 25, 1979 at 7:30 p.m.
The following members were present: Anderson, Hoover, Johnson, Stockman and
Thorsen. Also present were: City Manager, Jeff Sweet and Acting Council Secretary,
Kathy Middleton.
Introduction - Mayor Robert Hoover
The Mayor gave a brief introduction to the public to explain that the purpose of
this special meeting was for Council debate of the issues in response to the
public hearing and public information that was received on the possible acquisition
of the Middle School for a possible community center.
The following questions were discussed by the Council.
1. Is there a need for a new community center in Golden Valley?
2. Are the uses appropriate for a governmental agency to be involved in?
3. Are the income and expense projections realistic?
4. Do any possible advantages outweigh any possible disadvantages? What are they.
5. Will the possible merger of School District #275 with another school district
have any bearing with our decision?
6. What possible tax increases might occur?
T. What funding options are available?
8. What options are available for the Brookview complex?
Council Member Stockman introduced the following written resolution
RESOLUTION
(Authorizing Further Action on Middle School)
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member
Johnson and upon vote being taken thereon, the following members voted in favor
thereof: Hover, Johnson, Stockman and the following voted against the same:
Anderson, Thorsen, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted,
signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the City Clerk. See Resolution

Council Ad Hoc Committee::
Mayor Hoover appointed Councilmember Stockman and Councilmember Johnson to serve
an a Ad Hoc Committee for the purpose of setting the make. -up and the charge of
a Brookview Study Committee. They are to meet on April 30, 1979 at 6:30 p.m. and
report back to the Council before the first meeting in May.
Other Items:
MOVED by Johnson, seconded by Thorsen and carried to request that the Mayor write
a letter to the family of Senator Lewis expressing the bympathy of this Council
and our recognition of his fine service that he has given to this community.
Adjournment:
MOVED by Stockman, seconded by Johnson and carried to adjourn this meeting at.
