June 25, 1990
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council
of the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota was held at 7800
Golden Valley Road in said City on June 25, 1990 at 8:00 PP1.
The following members were present: Anderson, Bakken, Johnson, Stockman and
Thompson. Also present was: Lowell Odland, Director of Public Works.
hlayor Anderson asked that an update on the Circle Down situation be placed on
the agenda.
Public Hearing - I-394 Pedestrian Brid e
Mayor Anderson opened the meeting with a brief review of the history of the
I-394 corridor planning done by Citizens Committees and recent developments
related to the pedestrian bridge.
Lowell Odland reviewed the responses prepared by P1nDOT to alternative bridge
locations and landscaping.
The Playor opened the meeting for public input and persons present to do so were
afforded the opportunity to express their views thereon.
Steve Lebow, 808 North Tyrol Trail , Could we have no bridge?
Dorothy Trow, 4632 Sunset Ridge, Do we know if there is a demand? Don 't need
bridge, can take Glenwood buses.
Justin Perl , 4330 Sussex Road, If change in location is concerned about negative
impact on the south side.
Ralph Parker, 1109 North Tyrol Trail , Cost for handicapped accessibility not
necessary. North Tyrol Trail location too close to Wirth Parkway.
James Bobbette, 1406 South Tyrol Trail , Don 't want to see a neighborhood
destroyed.
Maxine Heintz, 108 Natchez Avenue South, Uses bridge, could walk to Theodore
Wirth.
Damon Farber, 4511 Strawberry Lane, Can we get more dollars for landscaping?
Joe Breimayer, 4700 Circle Down, Why redesign access? Is this a second design?
Doesn 't see� as negative. Spoke about the resale of lots.
Richard Bloom, 4417 Avondale Road, Original need schools and separation of South
Tyrol . Concern about traffic on south service road.
Larry Brant, 4400 Sunset Ridge, Originally built as part of trails. Feels it is
never used, spoke about petition.
Dallis Perry, 4310 Tyrol Crest, The two alternatives have negative impact on
south side. How pay for?

Lee Brant, 4400 Sunset Ridge, Feels hillside is removed. Current plan does
modify.
Phyllis Paul , 4012 Wayzata Boulevard, Feels alternative B has less impact.
Could a path be put in to Wirth Parkway?
Robert McGinty, 4500 Sunset Ridge, Is current funding lost if bridge is changed?
Duane Orn, 4401 Avondale Road, Is there a plan for bus service on south service
road? More children in South Tyrol with potential to walk to Meadowbrook.
Joseph Lee, 4400 Tyrol Crest, interested in bus stop.
Howard Hoy, 4541 Westwood Lane, no bridge.
Anna Hershbell , 640 Westwood Drive South, no bridge.
Peter Seitz, 4633 Sunset Ridge, feels design would be negative.
The Mayor closed the public hearing.
MOVED by Stockman, seconded by Thompson and motion carried to remove the bridge
from the design. Mayor Anderson and Council Member Johnson voted no.
t�OVED by Bakken, seconded by Stockman and motion carried unanimously to request
the installation of sidewalk on both sides from Tyrol Trail to Theodore Wirth
Parkway.
Circle Down Update
�1ayor Anderson and Lowell Odland reviewed actions that have been taken regarding
the homes on Circle Down.
Adjournment
The Council adjourned the meeting.
