August 14, 1990
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council
of the City of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota was held at 7800
Golden Valley Road in said City on August 14, 1990 at 7:00 P11.
The following mer�bers were present: Anderson, Bakken, Johnson, Stockr�an and
Thor�pson. Also present were: Williar� Joynes, City Manager; Lowell Odland,
Director of Public Works; Alan Barnard, City Attorney; and Judy Nally,
Administrative Secretary.
Mayor Anderson stated the special council meeting is being held to discuss
building a pedestrian bridge over I-394 between North and South Tyrol . She
further stated that only one specific bridge and location is being considered at
the meeting and it is the one included in the current design plans for I-394.
Allan Pint, I-394 Corridor Manager, presented the background information of the
bridge and reviewed the modifications.
The P1ayor opened the meeting for public input and persons present to do so were
afforded the opportunity to express their views thereon.
Bob Provost, 1429 South Tyrol Trail , read a letter fror� Perry Schwartz,
President, South Tyrol Association, which asks the Council to construct the
bridge over I-394.
Lee Brant, 4400 Sunset Ridge, opposed to building the bridge because of
environ�ental concerns.
Gary Kahen, 4530 Douglas Avenue, in favor of bridge which will cross over all
lanes of traffic.
Vicky F1cGinty, 4500 Sunset Ridge, opposed to bridge.
Tracy Godfrey, 4630 Douglas Avenue, in favor of bridge.
Dorothy Trow, 4632 Sunset Ridge, opposed to bridge, feels people can use Wirth
Parkway.
Anna Hershbell , 640 bJestwood Lane, opposed to bridge.
Warren Lundsgaard, 909 Parkview Terrace, stated he was on the original study
committee and they were concerned over the disconnection of neighborhoods.
Jim Heidelberg, 409 Valley Wood Circle, in favor of bridge, feels the neighborhood
should decide.
Larry Brant, 4400 Sunset Ridge, opposed to bridge.
Stuart Ruehle, 501 Natchez Avenue South, supports building of bridge.
David Runkle, 4340 Sussex Road, asked what happens to the P�InDOT property if the
bridge is not built.

tlargaret McNeil , 4530 Douglas Avenue, stated she is concerned over what happens
to the land �1nDOT owns if the bridge is not built.
Dale Hillman, 4617 Sunset Ridge, in favor of bridge.
rlille Segal , 4409 Sunset Ridge, is concerned over safety of children after the
bridge is built because people can hide by the ramp and favors plan B and C.
Cathy Whiting, 4508 Sunset Ridge, opposed to bridge because of the distruction
of property.
Judy Perl , 4330 Sussex Road, would like to see another alternative that would not
destroy the Tyrol area.
Ann Plurrill , 1315 June Avenue South, in favor of bridge.
Dar�on Farber, 4511 Strawberry Lane, supports the bridge.
The P1ayor closed the public hearing.
MOVED by Johnson, seconded by Thompson and motion carried to approve the
construction of the I-394 pedestrian bridge at the location indicated in the
current design of I-394 with the modification to the north access from Sunset
Ridge as presented by ��inDOT in the landscape plan and authorized by letter from
Allan Pint, I-394 Corridor F�anager, dated August 10, 1990. Council P�er�ber
Stockman voted no.
Adjournment
