#056 07-07-59 Favor Removal Personal Houshold Goodsd Resolution No. 56 July 7, 1959 Member Teresi introduced the following resolution and MOVED its adoption: "A RESOLUTION FAVORING THE REMOVAL OF PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX ON HOUSEHOLD GOODS" WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legislature has recently enacted legislation empowering the County Commissioners of the various counties of the state to remove or repeal the personal property tax now assessed and collected on household goods in households and homes, which legisla— tion is discretionary for the respective Boards of County Commissioners, AND WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Hennepin County is considering the removal or the repeal of said tax upon such personal property, AND WHEREAS, all of the work of assessing such household goods and personal property in the Village of Golden Valley for the year 1959, has now been completed and the cost of spreading and assessing such personal property has been incurred and must be paid for the year of 19590 AND WHEREAS, the budget and levy of the Village of Golden Valley for the year 1960 has not yet been prepared, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Village of Golden Valley, Minnesota, as follows: 1. That the Village of Golden Valley is in favor of the removal or repeal of the personal property tax upon household goods and urges the Board of County Commissioners of Hennepin County to pass and adopt the necessary resolution to that end, 2. That such removal or repeal of such tax take effect beginning May 1, 1960, but that such tax due and payable in the year 1960 and assessed in the year 1959 should not be repealed. Passed and adopted by the Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley, Minnesota, on this 7th day of July, 1959. Mayor Attest; Villag Jerk & Administrator The motion for the adoption of the foregoing* resolution was duly seconded by Member Bies and upon vote being taken thereon, the following members voted in favor thereof: Bies, Flannagan, Nadasdy, Scherer and Teresi; and the following voted against the same: None, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the Clerk.
