#224 03-01-71 Object Eliminate Homestead ExemptionResolution No. 224 March 1, 1971 Member Paulson introduced the following resolution and MOVED its adoption: RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO THE ELIMINATION OF THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FROM THE PROPERTY TAX LAWS OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley has read with interest a proposal by the Hennepin County League of Municipalities regard- ing property tax, and WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley understands that this proposal includes the elimination of all classifications of property, including that of homestead, and WHEREAS, it is the considered opinion of the Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley that the elimination of the homestead exemption will shift further taxes onto the already over -burdened homeowner, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village Council of the Village of Golden Valley goes on record as being opposed to the elimination of the homestead classification of the State of Minnesota property tax Statutes, and further, that the Village Manager submit copies of this resolution to our Senator and Representative of the State Legislature, to the Hennepin County League of Municipalities, to the Metropolitan Section of the Minnesota League of Municipalities, and to all City or Village Councils in Hennepin County. Mayor Attest: Village Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member Stockman, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following members voted in favor thereof: Hoover, Paulson, Stockman, Teresi, and Ulstad; and the following voted against the same: None, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the Village Clerk. fl 13
