#758 04-07-75 Bicentennial Celebration31 Resolution No. 758 April 7, 1975 Member Anderson introduced the following resolution and MOVED its adoption: RESOLUTION Bicentennial Celebration WHEREAS, by Act of Congress and the President of the United States the Bicentennial of our great nation is to be celebrated during the year, 1976, and, WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to all our citizens of Golden Valley to have opportunity to discover the worthiness of personal identification with the hallmarks of our country's heritage, and; WHEREAS, it would be pleasurable to participate and share with one another in festivities representing the character of these United States and all its people and; WHEREAS, it would be significant to assess our present in a manner to manifest our pride and priorities and accomplishments in combination with our hopes for the future, therefore; BE IT RESOLVED, that Sunday, May 11, 1975, the birthdate in 1768 of John Chapman, a pioneer conservationist known familiarity as "Johnny Appleseed," be designated as the beginning of our local observance of the Bicentennial, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council direct all citizens and businesses, churches and organizations to observe Sunday, May 11, 1975, in some appropriate manner highlighting the commencement of the celebration of the 200th Birthday of these United States of America. Mayor Attest: Acting City Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Bix and upon vote being taken thereon, the following members voted in favor thereof: Anderson, Bix, Hoover, Moberg and Riggs; the following voted against the same: None, whereupon said resolution.was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the Clerk.
