#823 11-17-75 Denounce United National General Assembly122
Resolution No. 823
November 17, 1975
Member Bix introduced the following resolution and MOVED its adoption:
RESOLUTION
(Denouncing Resolution Passed by
United Nations General Assembly)
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Golden Valley City Council and Human Rights
Commission joins with the two Houses of Congress and other responsible and con-
cerned groups in denouncing the Resolution adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly labeling Zionism a form of racism.
We consider this outrageous and offensive act, which encourages anti-Semitism
by wrongly associating Zionism with racial discrimination, a politically inspired
act that destroys the credibility of the United Nations.
By its perverted distortion of Zionism the United Nations' resolution attacks
Jewish communities throughout the world; by pronouncing the very theories that
led to the murder of six million Jews thirty years ago, the resolution raises
dangerous implications for the State of Israel, the Jewish people, and the con-
tinued existence of the United Nations as a responsible force in the world.
We support the position of the United States Senate in its undertaking an
examination of the role and function of the United States in the United Nations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Golden Valley it Council act
immediately to adopt this resolution and to communic to is actin to Senators
Humphrey and Mondale and Representatives Frenzel a Fr sere
Attest:
City Cl rk
