#010 02-21-78 Rename Woodlawn Park to Gearty ParkResolution No. 10

Member Johnson introduced and read the following written resolution and moved its
adoption:
RESOLUTION
(Re -name Woodlawn Park to Gearty Park)
WHEREAS, numerous interested citizens have approached the City Council for
the City of Golden Valley seeking various means of honoring the first white settlers
to locate within the territorial limits of what is now the City of Golden Valley,
Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, in consultation with the City Planning Commission
and the City Park Board has considered various alternatives for honoring said
original settlers by either naming in their honor a street, highway or city park, and
after all of said deliberations has concluded that it would be most appropriate and
feasible to re -name a city park in honor of the aforesaid settlers, being the Gearty
family, NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED,
by the City Council for the
City of Golden Valley that it
hereby orders and directs
that that certain city park
now known and designated as
Woodlawn Park be and the
same hereby is re -designated
and re -named Gearty Park,
effective as of the date
hereof, so that all city maps
and other official documents
prepared from the after this
date shall car y said new designation.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded
by Member Stockman and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Anderson, Johnson, Stockman and Thorsen and the following voted against
the same: none, wheruepon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted,
signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the City Clerk.
