#036 03-19-79 Support House File No. 900Resolution #36 March 19, 1979 Member Johnson introduced and read the written resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION SUPPORTING HOUSE FILE NO. 900 WHEREAS, the City of Golden Valley has within its municipal boundaries more than one watershed, and WHEREAS, a watershed district (Minnehaha) has been established to correct flooding problems associated with that watershed while a joint powers flood control commission (Bassetts Creek) has been established to correct flooding problems in the other watershed, and WHEREAS, the citizens in the watershed district are permitted to pay for the local costs of the flood control improvements through their general taxes while the citizens in the watershed with the joint powers flood control commission are limited to paying the local costs of storm sewer improvements through special assessments, and WHEREAS, for the City to impose an ad valorem tax to finance the local costs of flood control the improvements for the watershed with the joint powers flood control commission would result in citizens within the watershed district being taxed twice for watershed flood control improvements; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Golden Valley City Council, the City Council does hereby endorse and support House File No. 900 which will allow communities to levy taxes only on a portion the community so that all citizens will pay the same types of taxes t f d rm sewer improvements.
