Member Anderson introduced and read the written resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION
Home Free Shelter For
Battered Women and Children
WHEREAS, the Home Free Shelter for Battered Women and Children will
serve the municii,palities of northwest Hennepin County, and
WHEREAS, an urgent need for a shelter facility in the northwest area
has been documented by the State Department of Corrections, and
WHEREAS, the northwest suburban residents do not presently have adequate
access to shelter facilities at existing shelters, and
WHEREAS, the Union City Missions, Inc. has agreed to provide such a
program and has secured minimum funding to support the program, and
WHEREAS, capital improvements necessary to bring the building up to
code will involve a substantial one-time expense,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Golden Valley joins
with other municipalities of the northwest suburbs in support of the request
of Union City Missions, Inc. to obtain approximately $50,000 from the Urban
County Community Development Block Grant funds for the renovation of the
building to be used for the Home Free Shelter.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
Member Thorsen and upon vote being taken thereon, the following members voted
in favor thereof: Anderson, Hoover, Johnson, Stockman and Thorsen and the
following voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was de-
clared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature attested
by the Clerk.
