Member Johnson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION DECLARING A VACANCY TO EXIST ON THE GOLDEN VALLEY CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, Mary Anderson was heretofore elected to the office of Council
Member for the City Council of the City of Golden Valley for a four year term
covering the calendar years 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985; and
WHEREAS, the said Mary Anderson in the regular city-wide election held in
November of 1983 ran for and was elected to the position of Mayor of the City of
Golden Valley; and
WHEREAS, the offices of Council Member and Mayor are inconsistent positions
as said terms are used and determined by the statutes of the State of Minnesota,
when regarded as two separate positions; and
WHEREAS, on the date hereof Mary Anderson is taking the oath of office for
the office of Mayor of the City of Golden Valley and will immediately thereupon
commence fulfilling the duties and obligations of said office and has indicated
her willingness to resign from any further involvement with the Council Member
position to which she was elected in 1981.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden
Valley that it hereby declares that for the reasons above stated a vacancy
exists in the position of a Council Member for the City of Golden Valley for the
two year balance of the term to which Mary Anderson was elected in 1981.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council for the City of Golden Valley
shall within one week from the date hereof commence appropriate proceedings to
select and name an appointed successor to the aforesaid vacant Council Member
position.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member
Thompson and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Anderson, Johnson, Stockman and Thompson, and the following voted
against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and
adopted, signed by the Mayor and her signature attested by the Deputy City
Clerk.
