Member Bakken introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION REQUESTING RAILROAD CROSSING GRADE CHANGE,
MEDICINE LAKE ROAD AND M N & S RAILROAD
WHEREAS, Medicine Lake Road crosses the M N & S railroad tracks (at the
point of where said street forms the boundary between the City of Golden Valley
and the City of New Hope) by an overpass which creates an obstruction to vision
for motorists entering the said street from cross streets, constituting a traffic
hazard; and
WHEREAS, the said railroad has stated that it is not interested in making
any change on the overpass grade and approach so as to make the approach and
crossing of the tracks safe for vehicles, as required by Minnesota Statutes
219.08; and
WHEREAS, this Council believes that in the interest of public safety, the
said overpass should be eliminated and a safe grade crossing with appropriate
automatic warning devices installed, or such other modification as may be
determined by the Department of Transportation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That this Council hereby finds and determines that it is in the public
interest that the street crossing over the Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern
Railroad at Medicine Lake Road at the boundary of the Cities of New Hope and
Golden Valley be changed to a safer crossing; and
2. That the City Council further requests and petitions Hennepin County,
through its Bureau of Public Service to petition the Minnesota Department of
