89-021 - 03-07 Support Legislation Addressing Needs of ChildrenResolution 89-21

Member Thompson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN
WHEREAS, children are our most precious resource and deserve to be our most
urgent priority; and
WHEREAS, social and economic changes, including the increase in mothers
working out of financial necessity, and the number of children living in
poverty, have created a crisis in the care of our children; and
WHEREAS, this crisis has been compounded by the lack of affordable, quality
day care, lack of health insurance and lack of family support services; and
WHEREAS, the City of Golden Valley has a stake in seeing that our children
receive the care they need, and become productive and contributing members of
our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council urge the Minnesota
Legislature to support and vote for passage of legislation which addresses the
needs of children in our state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to
members of our local Legislative Delegation and to the offices of Governor Rudy
Perpich and Lt. Governor Marlene Johnson.

Th�lmotion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member
Jonson and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Anderson, Bakken, Johnson, Stockman and Thompson; and the following
voted against the same: none, whereupon said resolution was declared duly
passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and her signature attested by the Deputy
City Clerk.
