91-068 - 06-04 Encourage Commissions Adopt Option Half-Cent Sales Tax for CountyResolution 91-68

Member Thompson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GOLDEN VALLEY, HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA
ENCOURAGING THE HENNEPIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO ADOPT THE
OPTIONAL HALF -CENT SALES TAX FOR THE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the 1991 Omnibus Tax Bill provides for an optional half -cent
County -wide sales tax; and
WHEREAS, if the optional half -cent County -wide sales tax is not adopted,
the County and all of the Cities in the County will end up losing all of the
State -paid property tax relief that they would have otherwise been entitled to;
and
WHEREAS, the loss of this State -paid property tax relief would result in
unacceptably large increases in the property tax bills of the City's taxpayers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden
Valley to encourage the Hennepin County Commissioners to adopt the optional
half -cent sales tax for the County.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member
Russell and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Bakken, Russell, Stockman and Thompson; the following was absent:
Johnson; and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said resolu-
tion was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature
attested by the City Clerk.
