Member Thompson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO THE
GOLDEN VALLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT
ON FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE
WHEREAS, since the adoption of an Ordinance on March 2, 1943, establishing
a Volunteer Fire Department for the Village of Golden Valley, the community has
benefited from the department's efforts; and
WHEREAS, volunteers paid only for training, drills, meetings and actual
firefighting provide the most cost-effective fire suppression service available;
and
WHEREAS, the department has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to
training and attention to the design and provision of innovative procedures and
equipment which deliver the highest quality of service; and
WHEREAS, the superior ability and training of the Golden Valley Fire
Department provides the community with an average response time of only four
minutes and an insurance fire rating of 4, the highest available to communities
served by volunteer departments; and
WHEREAS, the individual commitment of our members provides a special com-
passion for fire victims, a desire to educate the public to avoid the painful
aftermath of fires and a history of outstanding community service by the Fire
Relief Association.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden
Valley, that it offers its congratulations and appreciation to the Golden Valley
Fire Department on its Fifty Years of Dedicated Service to the Community.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member
Russell; and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Russell, Stockman and Thompson; the following were absent: Bakken and
Johnson; and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said resolu-
tion was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor Pro Tem and his
signature attested by the City Clerk.
