94-59 - 07-19 Approve Hennepin Parks Purchase Trail EAsement Chicago Northwestern RailroadResolution 94-59 July 19, 1994 Member Micks introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: A RESOLUTION FOR APPROVAL FOR HENNEPIN PARKS TO PURCHASE TRAIL EASEMENT FROM THE CHICAGO NORTHWESTERN RAILROAD WHEREAS, the Suburban Hennepin Regional Park District (Hennepin Parks) has entered into an agreement with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for the ease- ment purchase for use of a portion of the railroad right-of-way; and WHEREAS, this trail corridor located between the cities of Plymouth and Minneapolis traverses the City of Golden Valley and will benefit the citizens by creating an off-road transportation link and recreational trail through the northwestern suburbs which is proposed to eventually connect to the forty mile North Hennepin Regional Trail, the Luce Line, as well as other regional trails; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes the advantages to the public in having the North Hennepin Trail consistently developed, signed and managed by one regional recreation agency with the cooperation of and in coordination with local munici- palities; and WHEREAS, Hennepin Parks, in the operation of its regional parks, park reserves and the North Hennepin Regional Trail, demonstrates its knowledge and experience in designing, administering, and maintaining high quality facilities in a manner that is supportive of natural resources preservation and public safety; and WHEREAS, the Golden Valley Open Space and Recreation Commission and Planning Commission have both unanimously passed motions encouraging the City Council to adopt a resolution authorizing Hennepin Parks to acquire a trail easement from the CNR railroad through Golden Valley for that portion of the North Hennepin Regional Trail located in Golden Valley. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden Valley that it does hereby grant consent to Hennepin Parks to acquire an ease- ment for a trail within the right-of-way of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. rt` B1 it Tremere, Mayor ATTEST: irley J is09A &M2 n, City Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member Thompson, and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Johnson, Micks, Russell, Thompson and Tremere; and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor and his signature attested by the City Clerk.
