Member Russell introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING GENERAL MILLS INC.
LEGISLATION AND PURSUIT OF EMERGENCY AND
ALTERNATIVE PERMANENT WATER SUPPLIES
WHEREAS, the Joint Water Commission (JWC) purchases 100% of its water from

WHEREAS, current state law that takes effect in the year 2002 may have a
significant negative impact on one of these options with the General Mills, Inc. facility; and
WHEREAS, current state law requires cities to develop an emergency backup water
supply.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Golden Valley City Council
hereby supports, in principle, the drafting of legislation that would exempt General Mills,
Inc. from the 2002 sunset date in order to allow the JWC to pursue, the investigation of
• future uses of General Mills, Inc. well water for both emergency and permanent supply
purposes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Golden Valley City Council supports the
JWC pursuit of alternative permanent water supplies.
