Member Micks introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR A
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL LOCAL PLANNING ASSISTANCE GRANT
WHEREAS, the City of Golden Valley is undertaking a complete revision of its
comprehensive plan pursuant to state mandate, in conformity with the requirements
established in Minnesota Statutes sections 473.851 to 473.871, and with all due effort to
meet the mandated deadline of December 31, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the City has identified certain inadequacies in the local resources
available to effect the timely completion of the plan revision, the most crucial of these
being the lack of a city-wide GIS system to provide necessary land use mapping and
analytical capability; and
WHEREAS, the City has entered discussion with a consultant who would, on a fee
for service basis, be able to establish such a system and provide the City with maps and
data tables for inclusion in the plan; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council is authorized by Minnesota Statutes sections
473.854 and 473.867 to award and disburse planning assistance grants to communities
pursuant to such uniform criteria, policies, and procedures as the Metropolitan Council
finds appropriate to establish;
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Director of Planning and Development is hereby
authorized to apply to the Metropolitan Council for $20,000 of planning assistance funds
on behalf of the City of Golden Valley.
