01-53 - 10-02 - Authorize Noise Wall TH 169 Winsdale St and Mendelssohn Ln Resolution 01-53 October 2, 2001
Member Johnson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PREPARATION OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
FOR A NOISE WALL ON THE EAST SIDE OF TRUNK HIGHWAY 169 BETWEEN
WINSDALE STREET AND MENDELSSOHN LANE IN THE CITY OF GOLDEN VALLEY
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Legislature has directed the Commissioner of the
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to prepare a study which assessed the
noise levels along freeway corridors within incorporated areas of the State and suggested
mitigation measures to reduce the impact of freeway noise; and,
WHEREAS, the TH 169 corridor within the City of Golden Valley was assessed as
part of the study; and,
WHEREAS, the study suggests that through the construction of a noise wall the
impact of sound generated by vehicles within the TH 169 corridor can be mitigated; and,
WHEREAS, MnDOT staff held an open house on August 23, 2001 to discuss the
proposed noise wall and to review possible alternatives for design; and,
WHEREAS, the Golden Valley City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the
community to proceed with the construction of the project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Golden Valley City Council hereby
requests that MnDOT proceed with the preparation of plans and specifications for
construction of a noise wall along the east side of TH 169 between Winsdale Street and
Mendelssohn Lane.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member LeSuer
and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Anderson,
Bakken, Johnson, LeSuer and Micks; and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor
and her signature attested by the City Clerk.
