Member LeSuer introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
IN ITS EFFORTS TO CONTROL GYPSY MOTH INFESTATION IN GOLDEN VALLEY
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has found established
populations of Gypsy moths in Minneapolis and near Golden Valley, and
WHEREAS, Gypsy moth is a threat to Minnesota's valuable urban forests as it is an
exotic pest insect that feeds on more than 300 different trees and woody plant species, and
WHEREAS, the devastation caused by established Gypsy moth populations may
result in economic losses, declines in property value and severe environmental impacts,
and
WHEREAS the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has proposed the use of an
environmentally friendly method to eradicate this environmental problem,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Golden
Valley, Minnesota that the City supports the efforts of the Minnesota Department of
Agriculture in its proposed use of Btk (Baxillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki)) in the spring of
the year 2002, in order to protect Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley and the state
of Minnesota from the Gypsy moth.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Member Tremere
and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Grayson,
Johnson, LeSuer, Loomis and Tremere; and the following voted against the same: none,
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted, signed by the Mayor
and her signature attested by the City Clerk.
